John D. Steinmetz

John D. Steinmetz was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Vista Bank five years ago – notably the first CEO in the Bank’s 100-year history who was not a member of the organization’s founding family. Overseeing all aspects of the organization’s commercial and retail banking functions, he directs strategic goals, policies, employee and shareholder relations.

At the time of his appointment, Vista was a rural bank focused primarily on agricultural lending. Leading the charge on a rebrand that would encourage urban market expansion, Steinmetz grew the Bank’s influence, which allowed the company to gain a strong foothold in the Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin markets.

Since taking the helm, bank assets have grown by 690% (2007 to 2019) breaking the top 100 Banks in Texas by asset size list in 2018 ($920MM as of January, 2020). Steinmetz has successfully raised over $40 million dollars in capital to support the bank’s growth. As Vice-Chairman of the holding company, Vista Bancshares, he is laser-focused on continually increasing shareholder value.

Since taking the helm, bank assets have grown by 690% (2007 to 2019) breaking the top 100 Banks in Texas by asset size list in 2018.

A graduate of the Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business, Steinmetz holds the prestigious honor of being the youngest person ever appointed to the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents. First appointed in 2011 by Governor Rick Perry, he was subsequently reappointed in 2017 by Governor Greg Abbott. Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee of the two-billion-dollar university for two terms, Steinmetz is passionate about keeping higher education attainable while serving the students of his alma mater.

Through his active involvement in Young Presidents’ Organization, Dallas Millennial Club and coaching multiple YMCA youth sports teams, Steinmetz invests in the community on both a personal and corporate level. A 2018 honoree of the Dallas Business Journal 40 Under 40 program and 2019 recipient of their Most-Admired CEO award, he serves as a Dallas Citizens Council Trustee. Having relocated Vista Bank headquarters to Dallas due to his belief in the strong Texas economy, Steinmetz prioritizes philanthropic efforts in the region.
Steinmetz’s wife, Jaemie, is a graduate of Texas Tech University and former educator. They reside in Dallas with their son, John David, and daughter, Stiles Claire.
