A fast-growing community bank is expanding its Austin presence with an office in Westlake that could serve as its local market headquarters.
Dallas-based Vista Bank, which entered the Austin market in early 2017 with a tiny office in North Austin on Jefferson Street, has inked a lease for a 4,500-square-foot office formerly occupied by BB&T at 3342 Bee Caves Road, just west of Walsh Tarlton Lane.
Brian May, the bank’s Austin market president, said the interior of the building will be updated and the space should open by early September.
The bank’s existing leased office on Jefferson that opened last May is only 900 square feet, so the new space will give the bank’s seven employees room to breathe, May said. Bank executives haven’t yet decided if they will retain the Jefferson office.
Vista Bank, which dates back more than 100 years to its roots in West Texas, now has a total of $700 million in assets, including $613 million in deposits, spread around 15 offices around the state. The bank moved its headquarters from Lubbock to Dallas in 2015.
In Austin, Vista has grown quickly, with about $80 million in loans on the books and $25 million in deposits in about a year.
According to Vista Bank President and CEO John Steinmetz, the bank’s future growth is expected to be centered in Austin and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The bank continues to invest in technology and has recently upgraded its website in order to make its online banking experience more user-friendly, Steinmetz said.
