Executive Vice Chairman
Executive Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives
NBH BANK
John D. Steinmetz
Mr. Steinmetz serves as Executive Vice Chair and Executive Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives at NBH Bank, as well as a member of the board of directors of NBH Bank, roles he has held since January 7, 2026, the date of closing of the merger of Vista Bancshares, Inc. with NBH Bank. In this role, Mr. Steinmetz leads the Texas, Florida and resort markets for Vista Bank, a division of NBH Bank, ensuring continuity while actively pursuing strategic expansion in high-growth regions.
This milestone transaction is the result of Mr. Steinmetz’s long-term vision to transform Vista into a high-growth, relationship-driven commercial bank positioned for scale. The merger of Vista Bancshares, Inc. with NBH Bank represents a transformative milestone for both organizations, reflecting a shared commitment to disciplined growth and long-term value creation. The transaction, valued at approximately $377 million, underscoring the strength of Vista’s franchise and future earnings potential. The combined company will have approximately $12.6 billion in pro forma assets with locations spanning across nine states. As part of the integration, NBH Bank’s franchise will be rebranded under the Vista Bank name across the combined enterprise, further extending the Vista brand into new markets and reinforcing its position as an industry leader.
Prior to the Merger, Mr. Steinmetz held various leadership roles with Vista Bancshares, Inc. and Vista Bank since joining in 2007, most recently serving as Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vista Bancshares, Inc. and Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vista Bank. In these roles, he oversaw all commercial and retail functions while being laser-focused on adding shareholder value. The first non-family member appointed to Bank CEO, the 113-year-old company was a West Texas Bank focused primarily on agricultural lending when Steinmetz took the helm. Leading the charge on a rebrand that would encourage metro market expansion with middle-market companies, John Steinmetz grew the Bank’s capital and influence, raising $40mm and expanding the footprint into the Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and, most recently, Palm Beach, Florida markets. He also led the Bank to ‘level the playing field’ by opening the first Banking Center and Financial ecosystem in Fair Park of South Dallas in over three decades.
Under his leadership, Steinmetz ensured responsible, disciplined organic growth surpassing 700%, hitting a total asset size of 2.5 billion in 2025. And while it took 108 years to reach $1 billion in assets, it only took three years for the Bank to eclipse the $2 billion mark, evidence of a strong financial trajectory. Listed among North Texas’ Top Commercial Banks since 2020, Vista ranked #10 out of 606 banks nationwide between $1-5 billion asset size nationally by CB Resource, Inc.
A proud graduate of the Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business, Steinmetz was first appointed to the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents in 2011, making him the youngest appointed Regent in the System’s history, and was subsequently reappointed in 2017. Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee of the two-billion-dollar university for two terms, Steinmetz fought to keep higher education attainable while serving the students of his alma mater.
A 2025 EY Entrepreneur of the Year ® National Finalist, 2024 EY Entrepreneur of the Year ® Southwest Award Winner, 2024 DCEO Corporate Citizen Leadership Excellence Award Winner, 2022 DCEO Financial Executive Award Nominee for Outstanding Public Service, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 DCEO Dallas 500 recipient, 2019 Dallas Business Journal (DBJ) Most-Admired CEO, and 2018 honoree of the DBJ and Fort Worth Business Press 40 Under 40 programs, John’s leadership earned the Bank a place on the 2024 Fortune Best Companies to Work For list, 2024 Inc. Power Partner list, multiple years on the SMU Cox School of Business Dallas 100, and Dallas Business Journal’s #1 Best Place to Work and Fast 50 Companies lists. Steinmetz is a past member of the Dallas Citizens Council’s Board of Directors and Dallas Museum of Art’s Finance Committee, a member of the Young Professionals Organization (YPO) Dallas and Aspen chapters, and serves on the Cotton Bowl Board of Directors. He has also completed Harvard Business School’s prestigious CEO/President Program, further sharpening his leadership and strategic perspective. Having relocated the Vista Bank domicile to Dallas due to his belief in the strong North Texas economy, Steinmetz prioritizes philanthropic efforts throughout the state.
