Tony (T-Man) Stephenson

Vista Bank lost a friend, mentor, colleague, and banking legend today. Thoughtful, caring, loyal, and committed, Metro Market President Tony Stephenson was best known for his contagious smile and genuine love of others.

A Dallas banking icon, Tony literally shaped the trajectory of our company through his tireless efforts and amazing reputation, helping us expand our footprint and eventually move our headquarters to Dallas, Texas.

Beloved by his many clients, Tony had a very accomplished banking career before joining the Vista family in 2017.

Though awarded countless honors by his peers, Tony never put much stock in that sort of thing. Truthfully, he would rather have the admiration and adoration of his family and friends…which he did.

His best friend and Vista CFO, Robert Bruce, could always be found showing him the latest card trick over their standing daily lunch. And of course Tony always looked to his right-hand and lending assistant, Sara Ramos, to help care for the many loyal clients he guided through the years.

Tony will be remembered for countless reasons and epic stories, but perhaps most for his passion for life lived on his terms. And what an amazing life it was.  When not serving clients at all hours of the day and night, Tony and Lupita enjoyed their home in Mexico, riding bikes together through Uptown, a good round of golf, and grabbing a burger with his dear friend Buddy Cramer, Managing Partner of the Katy Trail Ice House.

Vista was blessed to have him while we did, and along with countless others across the world, we will miss him dearly.

Celebration of Life Service

Hands down, Vista wouldn’t be where we are today without Tony Stephenson. Tony cared enough to speak wise counsel into my life at some critical times, which forged a mutual respect and dear friendship. He had a huge heart for those around him, including me, and I will forever be grateful for his leadership and friendship.  Tony is an irreplaceable part of the Vista Family.

Tony was my best friend - he probably knew me better than I know myself. He cared for me unconditionally, flaws and all. He was always there to let me vent or just to provide support where needed. Simply put, Tony made my life brighter, richer, and more meaningful. He was a true blessing and I will miss him more than words can express.
Robert Bruce
Tony was a man who never met a stranger. His infectious smile and endearing spirit instantly made anyone he came into contact with feel warm and welcome. Tony marched to the beat of his own drum - that is to say, Tony had his own, unique way in everything. Tony meant so much to so many because of that uniqueness - the heart and charisma he brought with him in everything he did. There is no other like Tony because Tony was like no other.

Tony Stephenson is a legend in Texas banking.  He’s taught so many people at Vista how to professionally serve their clients and been a role model for everyone here, including me.  His big smile and warm personality is something that we will miss every day.  We love you Tony!

Every day T-Man was an exceptional banker and a dear friend. Some days, he was even a heck of a marketer! (see also Katy Trail Ice House coasters) But my favorite takeaway from Tony’s example was how he cared deeply for others while not living to please anyone. I’m better for knowing Tony – we all are.

Tony was a wonderful banker, but an even better friend. Wildcat Lending loves Tony, and he will be missed every day. He supported our little company at our start, and throughout our growth and success. Wildcat will never forget his love and support.

Tony was integral to the success of my business and through our business together, we more importantly became friends.  Tony had the ability to break the complicated down to simple building blocks.  That quality gave him a great capacity to understand and bring me back to reality when I had been swayed by the smokescreen of the complicated.   I’m not sure that there is anybody that I would trust more than Tony.  His smile was infectious and calming.  Tony, my organization is going to miss you and I am going to miss you every day, my friend.
Buddy Cramer
Tony was kind, caring and he made you feel like you were the only person in the room. Every time I saw him, he would give me a big hug and say, “How are you doing big guy?”.  He had a genuine way about him and always made everybody laugh.  He was a very special person and meant a lot to me personally and professionally.

Tony was a great friend, banker, and leader. I always admired his ability to be relaxed, cool, and confident in an otherwise stuffy line of work. As soon as I met Tony I realized one could simply be themself and succeed so long as you take care of business. He was truly a trailblazer and a unique man. I will miss him, but I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to know him and learn from him.

Tony had the biggest heart and always wanted the best for everyone. He was my biggest cheerleader. I learned so much from him over the years, and will be forever grateful for the knowledge and advice he gave me. I always told him he was my "work dad". I will miss our daily morning huddles in his office, going over our game plan for the day, and our casual conversations that always made me laugh. He really was a funny guy. Tony was my mentor, and I am honored to have been able to work alongside him all these years. I will miss him so very much.
