Vision for this position:
The right candidate will contribute to maintaining Vista Bank’s high credit quality standards and will be responsible for the internal credit review of commercial relationships and quality of internal routines and controls designed to identify, measure, monitor, and manage asset quality. Provides senior management and reporting authorities with summarized reports of the overall creditworthiness of the loan portfolio.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
- Conduct targeted reviews of the commercial loan portfolio as approved in the annual credit review scope to validate compliance with loan policy and sound lending practices with limited supervision.
- Work diplomatically with markets to complete relationship reviews, address potential issues, and provide credit guidance.
- Conduct written independent reviews of borrowers to assess performance trends and to evaluate the strength or deterioration of the probably of default from overall earning and repayment capacity.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of loan structures, asset management practices, business line adherence to loan policy and procedures, the adequacy of financial and collateral documentation including valuations, deficiencies or discrepancies in closing documents and perfection items, the completeness / reasonableness of credit underwriting standards and trends in credit risk.
- Validate the accuracy and timeliness of assigned risk ratings and that the perception of risk is accurately reflected.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw objective conclusions and present recommended risk rating adjustments and findings to management, highlighting areas of concern or potentially heightened risk while providing solutions to improve credit quality and risk mitigation.
- Maintain all review related work papers, ensuring written commentary is comprehensive and supportive.
- Participate in the preparation of quarterly Loan Review reports for Audit Committee as needed.
- Participate in special research projects and present findings as needed.
- Interact and assist with audits and regulatory examination requests as needed.
- Attend loan committee meetings to stay abreast of emerging trends.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable company policies and banking regulations.
Skills and Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in commercial loan review and / or commercial credit underwriting at $5B+ financial institutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Expert knowledge of credit and collateral risk, internal controls, and accounting principles.
- Vast experience with various credit products, including but not limited to CRE, C&I, loan participations, loans secured by bank stock, and other government programs.
- Proficient financial statement analysis and interpretation of financial ratios, ranging from simple to complex.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical/statistical skills to assess complex credit situations and develop actionable recommendations.
- Understanding of the interdependency between commercial underwriting, portfolio management functions, credit risk rating systems, and asset quality.
- Constructive approach in dealing with conflicts and disputes while maintaining positivity and effectiveness of the loan review function.
- Flexibility in working with team members to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work on competing projects while meeting tight deadlines and achieving expected level of accuracy.
- Must be self-motivated, resourceful, and adaptable in a continually changing risk environment.

- Must meet minimum credit standards and pass a criminal background check. (Only applicants that have consented to a background and credit check will be considered.)
- Occasional travel to on-site offices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and interagency guidelines related to commercial lending and credit risk management.
- Knowledge of FFIEC Call Reporting codes and instructions.
